Are you ready for a summer loaded with big budget effects-filled action films? If so, then you're in luck. The 2011 summer movie season has its share of superhero / comic book inspired films - Thor, Captain America, Green Lantern, X-Men: First Class, and Cowboys and Aliens. And we'll get to check out a couple of action-packed sequels, including the final film of the Harry Potter franchise, the third Transformers movie, and the fourth film of the Pirates series.
But if action's not your thing, the summer also has a few comedies to lighten the mood. The Wolf Pack's back with The Hangover 2, Cameron Diaz is a Bad Teacher, Jennifer Aniston and Colin Farrell are Horrible Bosses, Steve Carell's Ryan Gosling's wingman in Crazy, Stupid, Love, the little blue guys are back for more adventures in The Smurfs, and Jesse Eisenberg reunites with his Zombieland director for a bank robbery comedy.
Animated films are well represented by Kung Fu Panda 2, Cars 2, and em>Winnie the Pooh. For horror fans, the summer serves up Fright Night 2011-style and the long-awaited/much-delayed Don't Be Afraid of the Dark. For sci-fi enthusiasts there's JJ Abrams' ode to Steven Spielberg with Super 8 and the prequel to the Apes films, Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Things get serious with The Help based on the bestselling novel, and there's even a big-name romantic pic that unites Tom Hanks with Julia Roberts.
