The Hangover Part II did more than win the box office this weekend. It set multiple records in the process.
Despite harsh reviews, the comedy earned $86.5 million from Thursday to Sunday, the best three-day weekend ever for a live-action comedy and the second-best opening of all-time for an R-rated film, just falling short of The Matrix Reloaded.
The complete top five from a busy weekend at theaters looks like this:
- The Hangover Part II: $86.5
- Kung Fu Panda 2: $47.5
- Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides: $39.3 million
- Bridesmaids: $16.4 mil
- Thor: $9.4 mil
