American Idol Exit Interview: Casey Abrams Says Goodbye

Humble until the end, Casey Abrams recently spoke on his elimination from American Idol.

The bearded crooner told MTV he had a feeling his name would be called on Thursday night. Not because he did poorly, but because he was so impressed by his competitors.

My performance was pretty good," he said. "But seeing Jacob kill it and then seeing Haley kill it, seeing Scotty and Lauren kill it and Durbin obviously... it just made me feel like, 'These guys are incredible. These guys could carry the show. I don't really need to be here, so if I go home tomorrow, I'm prepared.'"

Farewelll Casey

On a personal note, Casey's goodbye to contestant Haley Reinhart - which included a kiss - forced him to clear up all rumors about the two dating. He just refers to her as his "special music friend."

"I was completely on random mode. I didn't plan on ending up on Haley; it just happened that way. Nothing was planned," he said of his hug and kiss-filled farewell on stage.

Does the talented singer (he plays cello, bass, drums and clarinet) have any parting words of advice?

"Don't take yourself too seriously. Take music seriously, but not yourself."

Lindsay Lohan to Plead No Contest to Theft

Lindsay Lohan will enter a plea of no contest to the misdemeanor theft charge she faces over the alleged necklace theft she commented earlier this spring.

Despite insisting she is innocent, Lindsay is committed to what she told Jay Leno this week - she wants to accept responsibility and move on with her life.

As a result, Lohan and lawyer Shawn Holley will go back to Judge Stephanie Sautner as early as next week to enter a plea and end the case. Then what?

HOT Lindsay Lohan Pic

Lindsay was already sentenced to 120 days in jail for a probation violation, along with 480 hours of community service, at a preliminary hearing last week.

By pleading no contest to the theft charge, Lindsay is banking on Judge Sautner not adding additional prison time onto the 120 days for the theft charge.

In other words, LiLo serves 120 days for the probation violation and that's that.

Given that she had the option of a plea deal (which she turned down) to serve less than that for the theft charge originally, that's how it'll likely go down.

Assuming it does, what do you think of Lohan's jail sentence?

Aziz Ansari Shares Advice For MTV Movie Awards Host Jason Sudeikis

'Parks and Recreation' star has tips for 'Saturday Night Live' castmember.

It's official, boys and girls, "Saturday Night Live" star Jason Sudeikis is set to host the MTV Movie Awards when the show goes live June 5 from Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California. Who will win Golden Popcorn statues? What kind of zany antics will go down? Nobody really knows, but one guy who understands what it's like to host the show is 2010 emcee and "Parks and Recreation" star Aziz Ansari.

So, what words of wisdom does Mr. Ansari have for Sudeikis nearly 12 months after his stint? "It's so much work, so definitely have a lot of uppers on hand, like just drugs that'll get you fired up," he joked to MTV News. "PCP is good to stay up all night, get all the work done. It's a cool thing though; it's back in vogue. It's like Twitter, PCP. It's like trendy things: Twitter, PCP, Jonas Brothers."

While we're not sure he'll take Ansari's advice, Sudeikis has made it clear he hopes to do a bang-up job. "I'm sincerely flattered that the folks from the Mostly Teenage Viewers network have invited me to host this year, and I look forward to keeping the streak of flawless and critically lauded Movie Awards show hosting in 2011 alive," Sudeikis joked.

The MTV Movie Awards nominees — based on your votes at MovieAwards.MTV.com — will be announced Tuesday, at which point you'll be able to vote for your favorite films and stars in categories like Best Fight, Best Kiss, Biggest Badass Star, Best Villain and, of course, Best Movie. Voting will continue through June 4, though Best Movie will remain open throughout the live ceremony June 5 — meaning you'll have a chance to affect the night's biggest prize until the very last minute.

Kenneth Branagh Talks 'Thor,' Sequels And The Marvel Movie-Verse

'They definitely were aware and for the idea that every movie has to work on its own right,' director tells MTV News of Marvel films.
By Rick Marshall

"Thor" thunders into theaters next week, adding yet another chapter to Marvel Studios' big-screen universe and bringing audiences that much closer to next year's superhero team-up extravaganza, "The Avengers."

As part of this year's Summer Movie Preview Week, MTV News spoke to "Thor" director Kenneth Branagh about taking on Marvel's hammer-wielding hero and the daunting task of integrating the god of thunder into the same world occupied by Iron Man, Hulk and — in a few months — "The First Avenger" himself, Captain America.

MTV News: So let's go back to the very early days of this project. Everyone was surprised — and pleasantly so — when your name was first announced as "Thor" director. Why did you take the job? Why did this project appeal to you?

Kenneth Branagh: I suppose it was partly that I wanted to surprise myself. I was happy to surprise a few other people. It's nice to challenge your own sense of what you think you might be able to do and other people's preconceptions. I thought that it was a total breath of fresh air, and the freshness about the whole adventure was something I'd enjoy very much. But you can't do it for just those reasons. I was drawn to the character and the story and the understanding that it would happen on an epic scale. The size of it, and the chance to tell a big — and hopefully popular — movie on a large scale was just such a very, very exciting possibility.

MTV News: Much like Iron Man was in 2008, Thor isn't all that well-known prior to his big-screen debut. One would think that this, along with his magical, godlike powers and origin story, makes the character an even harder sell for mainstream movie audiences. How did you approach that challenge?

Branagh: There's no question that everybody at Marvel felt that way, and I would have to agree with them. Although, nearly 50 years of Thor comics say there's a real fanbase for the character out there, and he's interacted with the other members of the Avengers in the comics many times. But there are many challenges to laying out a Thor origin story and letting it interconnect with the rest of the Marvel universe, which I, as a cinema viewer, am very intrigued by and enjoy. The happy coincidence was that I was certain that a large part of the movie should take part on Earth. For me, the story being partly on Earth was absolutely crucial, regardless of whether it had to fit into any other kind of movie, in order to maximize a number of things — chiefly, the humor. In the two or three months while we were talking about whether we want to make the same type of picture, that was one of the key conversations, and thank god we agreed.

MTV News: When we spoke with the "Captain America" writers, they mentioned that the central story came first, and then there was a point when they went back over the narrative and added references to the greater Marvel movie universe where appropriate. Was that the same for "Thor"? How did you handle the need to connect "Thor" with the other Marvel movies?

Branagh: Some of that was planned upfront, but to be honest, I never had to think about it too much myself, because my job and my value to the project was to keep the Thor story front and center. The rest would just organically start falling together. Sometimes it would be a case — particularly with names and things — where one could do a little blending in various places that would intersect. ... But I have to say that at no point did I feel like I had to try and guess where I was fitting into in some great Marvel wall chart of all of this. They definitely were aware and for the idea that every movie has to work on its own right — and not to assume anything — and once it's feeling secure and tight, we can have the fun stuff sprinkled throughout, and hopefully it will add some value.

MTV News: Well, the cat's out of the bag as far as Jeremy Renner's debut as Hawkeye in "Thor," so what else can you tell us about working with him and that character's role in Thor's universe?

Branagh: I'm not able to divulge anything in great detail, but the time I did spend with him was excellent. He's prepared, smart, very detailed, and what he's going to bring is something extremely interesting. He's an unusually big fan of the comics and knows the character well. There's likely to be a very, very interesting development from one film to the next with that character.

MTV News: There have been some rumors of a sequel in the works, and though nothing's official at this point, is this a world you'd like to return to down the road?

Branagh: I'm still so in the midst of the "Thor" experience that it's impossible to see anything other than simply finishing the delivery of it. We've been going around the world and getting fantastic reactions, and the thing I've been so pleased with is the number of people who have been surprised with how much they enjoyed the movie -- because it wasnt' necessarily what they expected or wasn't a character they knew. I'm also thrilled about the consistent delight in the humor of the film, and necessarily and sort of triumphantly, the emergence of Chris Hemsworth as a really significant actor here in the role of Thor. So all of those things are hugely exciting, but we only just opened in Australia, and we're opening in the UK as we speak, but given this is where we made it and where the comics come from, it's going to be phenomenally important how we do here in the U.S. So, being the Irish superstitious man that I am, I'm not going to even think about "Thor 2" until -- and if -- we are lucky enough to have the right kind of audience for "Thor 1."

'Thor' Star Chris Hemsworth Says There's 'Tension' In 'Avengers'

'You've got big egos on these superheroes,' he tells MTV News.
By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

All of MTV News' recent interactions with Chris Hemsworth, a.k.a. the man about to grace movie screens as the God of Thunder in "Thor," have naturally been very focused on the highly anticipated film and all the nerdy details that come with portraying a comic book superhero.

We love everything "Thor," of course, but since the Norseman will also be appearing in the possibly even more anticipated and mysterious "Avengers" movie, we can't help but pester everyone in the high-profile cast about the film, which just started production.

So when we caught up with Hemsworth recently to expand on our ever-growing database of "Thor" information, we prodded the Aussie for some "Avengers" details. Although he couldn't give us much, he seemed excited that his onscreen brother Loki (played by Tom Hiddleston) will be joining him on set, as well as the potential for a superhero smackdown.

"[It's great] to have my brother there. Even if we don't get along," Hemsworth joked. "[Hiddleston] is fantastic. [He gave] an incredible, incredible performance in the film, and he's going to do the same in this one."

With regard to how all those superheroes will be interacting, particularly Tony Stark, Hemsworth said the environment will be tense.

"There's certainly some tension. You've got big egos on these superheroes," he said. "None of them want to be told what to do or form an alliance with these people who they don't understand anything about," he said. "In the comic books, you see that it's not an easy mix; that's definitely in [the movie]."

When asked if we'll see the ensemble cast (Samuel L. Jackson, Clark Gregg, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Hemsworth and Hiddleston) come to blows, Hemsworth surprised us with an answer in the affirmative.

"Well, you'd want it, wouldn't you? Otherwise, why are we all there? I think it would be safe to say you can expect something like that," he said.

Check out everything we've got on "The Avengers."

Dwight Howard Rolls Over Royce Reed in Court

Some good news for Orlando Magic star Dwight Howard, whose team just went down 3-1 to the Atlanta Hawks - he won a HUGE lawsuit against his baby mama.

Of course, if you're suing the mother of your child at all, there's a limit to how "good" you can consider things. Still, a $500,000 judgment? Holla!

Dwight sued Royce Reed for talking smack about him, and was awarded $500,000. Shockingly, she hasn't paid up, so he's going after her in California.

Dwight and Royce

Howard won the judgment against Royce Reed because she violated a court order, prohibiting the Basketball Wives star from talking about him in the press.

Dwight claims Reed now owes him $551,606.74 with interest.

So far, he's gotten nada from Reed. Unwilling to let bygones be bygones, he's now filed in California court for the right to go after her ass(ets )in California.

Of course, that implies she has any there.

Dominic Cooper Talks Playing Saddam's Son In 'Devil's Double'

Actor opens up to MTV News about dual roles as murderous Uday Hussein and his hapless body double, in our Summer Movie Preview.
By Josh Wigler

Dominic Cooper in "Devil's Double"
Photo: Lions Gate

The reign of Saddam Hussein is mostly in the collective rearview mirror, but for Dominic Cooper it's still very much in the present.

Cooper stars in this summer's "The Devil's Double," the Lee Tamahori-directed historical gangster flick that tells the story of Saddam's murderous son Uday and his reluctant body double, Latif Yahia. Appropriately enough, Cooper's pulls double-duty as both Uday and Latif, delivering a two-pronged performance that swings between psychotic mania and indescribable tragedy. And as moviegoers will no doubt observe in the just-released trailer, getting into those two divergent headspaces could not have been an easy task.

With "The Devil's Double" arriving in theaters on July 29, now's the perfect time to get the inside track on what's sure to be one of the can't-miss movie affairs of the summer. To that end, MTV News spoke with Cooper about playing Uday and Latif as part of our continuing Summer Movie Preview.

MTV: What drew you to "The Devil's Double"? Was it the opportunity to tap into these two different roles? The chance to explore this fairly recent period of history?

Dominic Cooper: Yeah, you know, it is such an interesting period of time. It seems so apparent to us, so much to do with our recent history, really, that area with regards to the war and that regime. But I didn't know enough. To sort of get inside of it and to see what this was all about and the world in which [the Husseins] existed, for me, was really intriguing. I wanted to know more.

And the opportunity to work with [director Lee Tamahori] — once I met him, I was blown away by his energy and his vision of what the piece should be. It wasn't meant to be an accurate historical reference to those people and that period of time; it was very clouded, what the actual truth is. But he saw this incredible dynamic between an evil man and a poor guy who was thrown into a situation he couldn't get out of. That dynamic and that conflict, he found so riveting, as did I.

MTV: Just judging by the trailer, this doesn't seem like an easy project to take on.

Cooper: It wasn't. It was chaos filming it; there wasn't much time to do it, and with the technology of having to double me up and the speed with which that had to be done and the change of character I had to do in a matter of moments ... it wasn't easy.

But I remember thinking, 'This is very special for me. No matter what people think of it and no matter who sees it and no matter how it turns out, these parts come along rarely.' I just absorbed every moment of it really and enjoyed playing out being a kid — because Uday was basically a child gone wrong, but one who had access to everything with no one stopping him. I was running around with golden guns and Ferraris ... it was an odd experience! Playing out this gangster role, knowing that this man did ruin and destroy people's lives and families without any remorse or forward thinking. He was just all-out evil, Uday was. It was very complicated, playing a character that you have no empathy for.

MTV: So were you ever able to get yourself to that point, a place where you could empathize with a man like Uday?

Cooper: No, not really. [Laughs.] The wonderful thing was having Latif to play as a sympathetic character. After being this monster for days in and days out, it was nice to play something genuine and heartfelt and sort of emotionally raw rather than this savage person. I suppose in terms of strength and understanding, on some level, I had to comprehend what it must have been like for [Uday] as a child, growing up in that regime and having Saddam as a father, not being acknowledged by his father. I don't think he trusted him to take his position, to run a country, with military decisions. All of those things, if you think about them, it's why he killed his father's best friends. He was desperate for attention. He was never given enough. That was a way in for me, to try and comprehend the monstrosities that he took part in.

MTV: From a technical standpoint, how did you do this? What was the process of playing these two characters?

Cooper: Technically, some of the scenes where both of us were in the shot, we'd have a motion-controlled camera. I'd film a scene dressed as and behaving as Uday, and it would replicate the move exactly so you could double the screen up and put it over the top. I would have to guess or work out where I was standing for the other character, which was sometimes very difficult, because Uday takes up a lot of space; he's very manic, he moves around a lot, and we'd have to try and pinpoint where the eye-lines would be. It's quite complicated, really. I was basically acting to nothing, remembering the performance I was doing as that person. It wasn't easy, but again, it was so creative and in the moment because on-the-spot decisions were being made. I think a lot of the time, instead of too much thinking, you kind of go with your instincts and our wonderful cameraman's instincts, and I think it turned out better for it.

MTV: "Devil's Double" hits theaters in July, right in the midst of a very crowded summer-movie season filled with superheroes, robots and what have you. For you, what makes "Devil's Double" stand out in a sea of blockbusters?

Cooper: Well, I think it's the fact that this is not a blockbuster, in a way. [Laughs.] They're visually stunning, those films, but ultimately it depends on whether you want complete escapism — to believe that there are green monsters coming down from Mars and superheroes are flying around the sky, which is wonderful and exciting — or whether you want some sort of reality-based reference to a man who actually existed.

I think Latif's story is exhilarating. How could anyone have ever lived through that? It's so far from where we are, seeing how Baghdad functioned, this lavish and overwhelming lifestyle that these people led. There's a true horror of what went on within it. But at the same time, Lee's made it action-packed and fast moving and sexy in a way. It has all of those elements. It's a gangster film rather than a historical documentation. You're just amazed that anybody ever went through this.

It's rare these days for a screenplay to fetch its writer a seven-figure deal, but if you're last film was the indie hit '(500) Days of Summer' and your pitch includes a royal wedding, it seems you're golden. In the smartest strike-while-the-iron-is-hot news we've heard in a long time, 'Summer' scribes Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber have sold a pitch about a Midwestern girl who travels to the United Kingdom only to fall in love and marry a prince, Deadline reports.

Neustadter and Weber's pitch ignited a bidding war between multiple studios, with Sony Pictures ultimately securing the rights to the script. The film is described as "'Notting Hill' meets 'Meet the Royal Parents.'"

Based on the two movies mentioned, Cinema Blend speculates that the film could "focus on the culture clash between her salt-of-the-earth parents and the stuffy royals." Given how clever '(500) Days of Summer' was, we hope this will be far more than a retooling of Julia Stiles' 2004 rom-com 'The Prince and Me.'

'Moulin Rouge' Is 'One Of The Best Movies Of All Time,' Joe Jonas Says

Before MTV News' 'Moulin Rouge' live stream Monday at 3 p.m. ET, Jonas recalls working with director Baz Luhrmann on Broadway's 'La Boheme.'

As we gear up for our "Moulin Rouge at 10: A Spectacular Spectacular MTV News Event" on Monday, we are remembering why the movie is so memorable a decade later.

Joe Jonas had the pleasure of working with the flick's director Baz Luhrmann back in 2003 as a member of the children's chorus in Luhrmann's Broadway production of Puccini's classic opera "La Boheme," and he has only the fondest memories of the experience.

"It was amazing," he told MTV News. "Funny story for you: I was in 'La Boheme,' [and] I remember being onstage and I didn't know what stage left or stage right was, and I was really confused, and he told me from the audience, he was like, 'All right, take a little bit to the stage left.'

"And I was really confused, and I was really embarrassed," he continued. "I didn't know what he was talking about. He literally walked up onstage and he acted like he was talking to me, and he whispered in my ear, like, 'Go a little bit to the left.' So, for me, the fact that a director would be so cool with me like that, from then on, I was so blown away that he was so cool."

Jonas, who has since gone on to superstardom and even starred in two successful TV musicals ("Camp Rock" and "Camp Rock 2") credits Luhrmann's forward-thinking vision in "Moulin Rouge" for pop culture's current obsession with the genre.

"I think he's an amazing director, and his credits are unbelievable," he said. " 'Moulin Rouge' is one of the best movies of all time, and there's no doubt in that. And I think it really has started a generation of music into TV [and] movies so openly."

MTV News will reunite Luhrmann, Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor to celebrate "Moulin Rouge at 10: A Spectacular Spectacular MTV News Event" on Monday, May 2, at 3 p.m. ET on MTV.com. The director and stars will be joined by co-star John Leguizamo, who played artist Toulouse-Lautrec, and Catherine Martin, who won the Oscar for costume design and art direction. Hosted by MTV News' Josh Horowitz, the live stream will include special appearances and live interviews while looking back at how the film came to be and how its legacy continues to grow.

To get in on the fun, fans can submit questions for the "Moulin Rouge" director and talent via the @MTVNews Twitter handle with the hashtag #AskMoulin.

First Look: Julianne Moore as Sarah Palin

Julianne Moore will portray Sarah Palin in the HBO movie Game Change.

While Moore wasn't a name that jumped out at us as a doppelganger for the former Alaska Governor, we know she can act (four Oscar nominations), and based on this promotional photo from the network, she certainly looks the part.

The film begins shooting this week and co-stars Ed Harris as John McCain and chronicles the historic 2008 presidential election. Here’s your pic:

First 'Immortals' Trailer Debuts Online

Quick, check out the first trailer for 'Immortals,' the new film starring Henry Cavill as Theseus, a gifted archer who's chosen by the gods to defend them against the evil Hyperion (Mickey Rourke).

We advise you to be quick, as earlier posts of the trailer have already been taken down.

It's touted as being "from the producers of '300,'" and also stars Kellan Lutz, Freida Pinto and Stephen Dorff.

There's battle galore, hot priestesses, a glowing magical bow and arrow, and archery so deft, it would put 'Lord of the Rings'' Legolas to shame.

The movie opens Nov. 11. (Yep, that's the mystical 11/11/11). See the trailer after the jump.

Antje Traue Up for 'Man of Steel' Villainess

Filed under:

Superman may have Lois Lane in his corner, but he's not a ladies man to every female. Just ask German actress Antje Traue, who is a front-runner to play the lead villainess in Zack Snyder's rebooted Superman film 'Man of Steel,' according to Deadline. Traue will join with Michael Shannon, who will play bad guy General Zod, to take down the Man of Steel.

Initially, Deadline suspected that she would play Ursa, Zod's accomplice in the first two Superman films, but Variety now says she'll play Faora, who first appeared in the comic books in the late 1970s, and was the basis for the character of Ursa, played by Sarah Douglas in the 1978 and 1980 originals (Zod was played by Terence Stamp).

Traue made her American debut with 2009's sci-fi flick 'Pandorum,' and has been looking for high-profile roles to get her U.S. career off the ground; Deadline reports that she went after roles in 'The Rite' and 'World War Z.'

'Man of Steel,' which stars Henry Cavill as Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane and Kevin Costner and Diane Lane as Jonathan and Martha Kent, will hit theaters in December, 2012.

Daryl Sabara Interview - John Carter of Mars

Daryl SabaraDaryl Sabara, best known for starring in Robert Rodriguez' Spy Kids franchise, has a major role in what could be one of 2012's big films: John Carter of Mars. Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo, Wall-E) adapted Edgar Rice Burrough's tale and is making his live-action feature film directorial debut with the sci-fi action film set for a March 9, 2012 release. And at the premiere of Disney's Prom, Sabara talked about working with Stanton on the genre-bending epic.

"This is his first live-action. I mean, I feel so lucky to get to work with him. Everyone's so great and just so normal. And it's a passion project of Andrew's. He's been wanting to do it since he was a kid. I've known the book since I was little. My grandfather would read them to me, and so I've known them and I'm so excited. I feel so lucky to be a part of something I'm so excited about," said Sabara in our exclusive interview.

Check out the rest of what Sabara had to say about the sets of John Carter of Mars:

'Bang Bang Club' Star Malin Akerman Talks Photographers' Deaths In Libya

'It is incredible how relevant ... this film is to what is going on in Libya,' she tells MTV News.
By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

Given the recent deaths of photojournalists Tim Hetherington and Chris Hondros, who were killed while covering the battles between rebels and Libyan government forces, the subject matter of the new film "The Bang Bang Club" could not be more timely.

The film revolves around the real-life story of four combat photographers who risked their lives to capture the brutality and violence associated with the first free elections in post-apartheid South Africa in the early '90s.

MTV News recently spoke to co-star Malin Akerman about the incredible circumstances now surrounding the film.

"It's crazy. No matter what, whether it be now or two years ago, the untimely death of Tim Hetherington and Chris [Hondros] is sad and really awful and incredible that it happened as this movie is coming out," she said, adding the fact that no matter where we are in time, there are always civil and religious wars raging in the world.

"It's never the wrong moment to shed light on it," Akerman said. "It is incredible how relevant ... this film is to what is going on in Libya. I hope people come out of this film and go, 'All right, let's look overseas and see what's happening and see what we can do.' "

Speaking to what motivates this specific "breed" of journalists to consistently put themselves in harm's way, Akerman said that it's not just about capturing unforgettable events on film, but also about the adrenaline rush.

"They're crazy. They really are adrenaline junkies," she said. "I just saw Greg Marinovich, who is one of the photographers [who inspired the film], and he walks around at all times with two cameras. ... He never leaves home without his cameras. It's a limb for them, it's an extension of their bodies, it's what they live for."

Cameron Diaz Says Her 'Bad Teacher' Character 'Just Doesn't Care'

'She doesn't want to be a good teacher,' actress tells MTV News.
By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

Cameron Diaz in "Bad Teacher"

For those who've been keeping tabs on Cameron Diaz's very R-rated upcoming comedy "Bad Teacher" — particularly the film's naughty red-band trailer — this is not the sweet and wholesome Diaz we've come to know and love via "There's Something About Mary" and "Charlie's Angels."

In "Bad Teacher," Diaz plays disgruntled educator Elizabeth, who, when not smoking "medicinal" marijuana in the parking lot, passing off the advances of the school's gym teacher (Jason Segel) and grading papers ("Are you f***ing kidding me?" she writes on one student's exam), keeps herself busy by seducing the new substitute teacher Scott (Justin Timberlake).

When MTV News caught up with Diaz recently, we asked her to talk about her character's "problems," and it turns out that the film's title is perfectly appropriate in this case.

"She's not a good teacher," Diaz said. "She is the opposite of good. She is a bad teacher. She is bad at teaching. ... She just really doesn't care. She doesn't want to be a good teacher, and so therefore, being a bad teacher really doesn't mean anything to her either."

Diaz said her character's professional ineptitude stems from a place of total misery.

"She's miserable. She's not happy with her world, and she doesn't pretend that she is," Diaz explained. "Her pain is real. She's living a very painful existence, so there's no humor to her in this."

With regard to the research the actress put into the role, Diaz revealed she took a few things from a bad teacher she once had.

"I had a really, really bad teacher. I'm not naming names. That teacher knows who that teacher is, and that's about it," she said. "I think that this person actually cared about being a good teacher, but just happened to be terrible," she added with a laugh. "We've all had those teachers. Teaching is not everybody's calling."

It's Summer Movie Preview Week, and MTV News will be bringing you exclusive interviews, clips and photos for the most anticipated films of the coming months. Get ready to gorge on inside looks at "Captain America," "The Hangover Part II," "X-Men: First Class," "Cowboys & Aliens" and more.

Check out everything we've got on "Bad Teacher."

Bree Olson Pleads Guilty in DUI Case

Bree Olson slash Rachel Oberlin is no goddess in the eyes of the law.

Charlie Sheen's former plaything pleaded guilty to a DUI charge Tuesday. The charge stemmed from the porn actress' arrest in Indiana back in February.

According to INCNow (dot) tv, Bree reached a deal with prosecutors in which she will serve one year of unsupervised probation if she stays out of trouble.

Bree Olson Mug Shot

Olson (whose real name is Rachel Oberlin) must also finish an unspecified amount of community service in the next year. Official sentencing is set for May 3.

Bree, who dumped Charlie Sheen presumably for good last weekend, was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of DUI after crashing her car February 3.

It was originally reported that she was merely taking a leave of absence as one of his goddesses while she returned to Indiana for this DUI sentencing.

Alas, the rift turned out to be more serious and the split permanent. But that doesn't mean there are hard feelings, as Bree is still close with him.
