George Lopez and Rodrigo Santoro Rio Interviews

George Lopez at the Rio premiereGeorge Lopez lends his voice to a friendly toucan named Rafael and Rodrigo Santoro gets animated as an ornithologist who's so into his feathered friends that he isn't above trying to communicate with them using squawks, whistles and generally acting like a gigantic crazy bird in Rio, the G-rated animated comedy from 20th Century Fox. At the film's premiere in Hollywood, Lopez said that Santoro wasn't the only one who was into acting like a bird while working on Rio.

"[Director Carlos Saldanha] gets really into your personal space because he'll, almost like a bird, fly around you," said Lopez. "He's so meticulous about what he wanted. I don't think I've meet a director that just made everything stop to get things right. He put all of these voices together and would take will.i.am and show will.i.am as a bird what will's singing. Me, with my standup, and then me as the bird. Nobody's done that, like say, 'This is the reason I picked you,' and then match the perfect voice to the character. Nobody's here by accident; they were all chosen. It was really nice."
