Box Office Report: Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows Overshadows the Competition

If the last two weekends are any indication, 2011 will be going out with a whimper rather than a bang. Of course, we still have the wide release of Mission Impossible - Ghost Protocol plus The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, War Horse, and We Bought a Zoo heading to theaters between now and 2012, and one or more of them might revive a sinking box office.

This weekend, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows did breathe a little life back into the box office, but not nearly as much as the first Sherlock Holmes with Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law. The box office was down almost 15%, with not even singing Chipmunks able to draw in family audiences.
