Detroit Lions running back Jerome Harrison was nearly dealt to the Philadelphia Eagles this week, but the trade was voided when Harrison failed a physical...
... that may have saved his life.
Sources tell ESPN that Philadelphia doctors discovered a brain tumor while evaluating the player. It's considered treatable and Harrison - who will not play again this season - will visit more physicians this week.
The trade would have sent Ronnie Brown to Detroit to take over in the backfield for injured Jahvid Best. Now, the Lions are left with neither Harrison nor Brown as they face a stiff test at home Sunday against the Falcons.
But the tumor would have remained undetected if not for this physical on Harrison, meaning this is one trade that has a winner outside of the playing field.
