Could Darren Aronofsky Go from Wolverine to Another Comic Book Movie?

When the search was on for a new director to take over the next 'Wolverine' film, many people were excited about the prospects of Darren Aronofsky directing, but we weren't sure if he was the right fit for the job, partly because the 'X-Men' films are so guarded by 20th Century Fox that Aronofsky probably wouldn't be given the sort of creative freedom he'd need to flourish in the role. Instead, a lot of us (myself included) were championing Aronofsky to wait it out and take over the Batman franchise from Christopher Nolan after the director departs following 'The Dark Knight Rises.' Though Aronofsky did wind up winning the 'Wolverine' job, there's now a possibility that, instead of Batman, he'll be tackling another comic book movie following 'Wolverine.'

During an interview with Darren Aronofsky over at ClothesonFilm (via AICN), the director points out that they're turning a difficult script into a comic book to maybe eventually adapt into a film. While at first it was believed to be his old Batman script, upon closer inspection it appears to be completely different.

When asked about his old 'Batman' script, he says, "Well, we're actually doing one. It hasn't really been announced, I don't know if I should give you the scoop! But we're getting there. We're doing a comic book of a script that's really hard to make and we're going to do a comic version first and see what happens...

It seems like if you come up with an original script, in Hollywood it's not as effective as a comic book. It doesn't even have to be successful as a comic; I mean how successful were Kick-Ass or Scott Pilgrim? Those were fringe comics, right, and they were basically turned in to big pictures."

Sounds interesting. Do you think this is a good path for Aronofsky's career, or should he stick to smaller films like 'Black Swan' and 'The Wrestler' after 'Wolverine?'
