Clint Eastwood's J Edgar Hoover biopic just added Oscar nominated actress Naomi Watts (21 Grams) to its cast list. Variety reports Watts, last seen onscreen in Fair Game (based on the true story of Valerie Plame), will play Hoover's dedicated, longtime personal secretary Helen Gandy in J Edgar. Charlize Theron had been offered the role but left to take on the part of the Evil Queen in Universal's Snow White and the Huntsman (one of two high-profile Snow White projects in the works).Watts joins a cast that includes Leonardo DiCaprio as Hoover, Armie Hammer as Hoover's alleged lover, Clyde Tolson, Ed Westwick as the FBI agent hired to write Hoover's biography, Josh Lucas as Charles Lindbergh, and Ken Howard as US Attorney General Harlan F Stone. Milk's Oscar-winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black wrote the script and Clint Eastwood (who was recently reported to be attached to the A Star is Born remake with Beyonce) is directing.
Filming is expected to begin in February.
