David Cronenberg's 'A Dangerous Method' Was Supposed to Be for Julia Roberts

In David Cronenberg's 'A Dangerous Method,' Keira Knightly plays Sabina Spielrein, a mental patient-turned-psychoanalyst, who had a rumored romantic relationship with Dr. Carl Jung (Michael Fassbender). However, the role was originally meant for someone else: Julia Roberts.

In an interview with indieWIRE, Cronenberg revealed that the first incarnation of the film was going to star the 'Larry Crowne' actress as Spielrein. 'Method' is based on the 2002 play 'The Talking Cure,' by Christopher Hampton. However, before the play, Hampton had written a screenplay for Roberts 17 years earlier called 'Sabina.' Of course, that project never came to fruition.
