The last time it took George Lucas 20 years to develop a movie, the result was 'Star Wars: Episode 1,' which, depending on who you ask, was either kind of bad or a colossal failure of epic proportions. Hopefully the same criticism won't be reserved for 'Red Tails,' a film about the lives of the Tuskegee Airmen, the first African-American combat pilots who fought in World War II. Lucas has been trying to make the film since the early '90s and now it might finally be starting to look like a possibility.
Yesterday, 'Red Tails' director Anthony Hemingway finally tweeted an unofficial release date for the movie (January 2012). This likely came as welcome news to the entire cast who were ordered to re-shoot scenes last year after Lucas said he was unhappy with the footage they had already taped. Although we haven't actually seen a single clip from the film, we don't blame Lucas for being a perfectionist on this project. After all, it's the first non-'Star Wars' or 'Indiana Jones' movie he's worked on in the last 17 years.
